Upcoming Presidential Election : United Nations Reiterates Collaboration

External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella had lengthy discussions with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Africa, Abdou Abarry on the topic.

As Cameroon prepares to organise the Presidential election in October this year, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Central Africa, Abdou Abarry has transmitted messages of peace and support from the institution. The UN senior official was received by the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella on March 13, 2025 during which the two personalities held talks on the political situation of Cameroon and the sub-region. 
Noting that Cameroon is a long and strategic partner of the United Nations, the Special Representative of the UN Scribe added that it is imperative of them to collaborate for hitch-free and inclusive elections.  “I discussed with the Minister on the situation in Cameroon which is a very peaceful and stable one, especially now that the country is preparing towards the Presidential election in October. We conveyed the message of the Secretary General of the United Nations of peace and stability to be maintained before, during and after the election. I also transmitted to the Minister the support of the United Nations country team to work together with Elections Cameroon for peaceful and inclusive elections,” stated Abdou Abarry.
For one thing, the United Nations encouraged and promoted dialogue at the outbreak of the socio-political crisis in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
