HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria : Treatment Still Free Of Charge

In a press release, the Minister of Public Health has debunked fake information surrounding the treatment of these diseases in the country.
Over 10 years ago, the government declared that antiretroviral drugs are free of charge to anyone eligible. The decision of the government has not changed on the matter despite all odds. The Minister of Public Health, Malachie Manaouda on March 14, 2025, through a press release has again reaffirmed the government’s commitment in ensuring that HIV treatment alongside other pandemic such as tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria are free of charge to those who need them.
In the press release, the Minister informed the general public of the false information currently circulating following the temporary suspension of American international funding (USAID). The Minister firmly denounced the misleading rumours and reassured all citizens that HIV, TB and Malaria drugs and service deliveries remain entirely free of charge in all public health facilities and affiliated Community-Based Organisations nationwide.
As previously communicated, despite the temporary suspension of the U.S. government funding, the government of Cameroon, through the Ministry of Public Health, undertook immediate, medium and long-term mitigation measures to guarantee the uninterrupted provision of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria services. “The government remains resolutely committed to ensuring access to prevention, care, treatment and support services for the general public across the national territory”, Minister Manaouda underlined. Despite the recent exemptions of grants from the US, the government has carried out complimentary efforts to ensure access to HIV and TB services during this period of strategic evaluation.
