Conflict Management: African Leaders Urge Greater Commitment

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute participated at the 38th ordinary session of the African Union that also witnessed the election of a new Chairperson of the AU Commission.
Statesmen of the African continent, meeting within the framework of the 38th ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, in Addis Ababa from February 15-16, 2025 have called for greater management in the management of conflicts and insecurity. The African leaders, amongst them the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, representing the President of the Republic, elected a new Chairperson of the African Union Commission, in the person of Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Djiboutian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute participated at the opening plenary that took place at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, and held sideline talks with other senior officials as well as had a working session with the Cameroonian community in Ethiopia. Different personalities who took to the rostrum at the Nelson Mandela Hall called for more commitment on the part of the African leaders to tackle insecurity in order to give development a chance. They also advocated more engagement in reducing conflicts and in using homogenous solutions to impulse development. The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed noted that to achieve lasting peace, justice and prosperity, there is the need to rise above the geopolitical tensions and the historical divisions imposed by colonial borders. “By fostering solidarity among all of our nations and embracing a shared destiny, we can pool our resources and talents to unlock our continent’s full potential,” he stated.
