Professional Championships Clubs : Adapting To Stadia Readjustment

With matches billed this weekend, most clubs have resorted to the FECAFOOT-owned stadia and other proximity stadiums with some matches at the ONIES controlled infrastructure.


This weekend is host to another high-profile football moment as the MTN Elite One and Two championships continue with Day 9 and Day 7 matches, respectively. The clubs are adapting to the ongoing challenges posed by stadium availability and financial constraints, leading to a reliance on various stadiums owned by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), proximity stadiums and municipal facilities. Some matches are also scheduled at infrastructure controlled by the National Sports Facilities and Equipment Board, (ONIES), especially at Annexes; which are evidently cheaper than the main stadiums. This shift comes after FECAFOOT announced that clubs should select their own venues due to ongoing disputes with ONIES regarding rental fees, which, according to the federation, are too high.
As for the Elite One championship, most of the teams are still able to play their matches at the ONIES-managed infrastructure. Colombe versus Canon, for example, will be played at the Yaounde Omnisports Annex 1 stadium. In Douala, the Bepanda Omnisports Annex Stadium will host two matches. Even the Roumde Adjia Annex Stadium will be in activity.
Away from these ONIES-managed infrastructure, others have resorted to municipal and proximity stadiums. Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda will receive AS Fortuna of Mfou at the Yong Francis Arena Stadium. The Bandjoun and Melong Stadiums will also host matches.
The ONIES-owned infrastructure is seemingly out of reach for most MTN Elite Two teams. Yaounde-based clubs are hosting their matches at the CAF Excellence Centre in Mbankomo and the FECAFOOT Technical Centre Stadiums, both owned by the Federation. Th...
