AFCON 2021 : Anxiety Mounts After Site Visits

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) infrastructure inspection by the Minister of State, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh left delegation members and denizens dumbfounded at each stop, thanks to the quality of infrastructure they saw. Douala contaminated other towns in acclaiming the Cameroon government and other stakeholders that contributed in making the hosting of the 33rd edition of the continental jamboree possible.
From Sawa Hotel that will host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials in Douala, through Hilton ready to harbour same officials in Yaounde, all is set. Other hotels including ONOMO, La Falaise, Djeuga Palace, Mont Fébé, WDC, Parliamentary Flat, Atlantic Beach Hotel, Le Ribadou, Relais St Hubert, TAGIDOR GARDEN Hotel and Hotel La VALLEE are ready to host the 24 teams. 
To former indomitable Lion, Alioum Boukar, Cameroon has what it takes to host the tournament. “I have seen spacious rooms and comfortable beds, impeachable swimming pools, well-equipped gyms and fortified security,” he poised. Though some hotels are still cleaning up, most of them have improved on their facilities and others added more comfortable rooms to make the most out of the tournament that many say will be beautiful. Their stay in the host towns including Bafoussam, Buea, Douala, Limbe, Garoua and Yaounde will be memorable as they will equally savour Cameroonian cuisine, enjoy the country’s rich culture through their traditional dresses and beautiful touristic sites.

Before CAF’s confirmation of Cameroon’s hosting rights on 22 October, 2022 in Yaounde, the major pitches for the TotalEnergies AFCON 2021, were ready. The Olembe Stadium is not only new but the best Cameroon has got and equally rated one of the best in Africa. The 60,000 capacity stadium is sophisticated inside-out. The 12,000 multi-coloured pangolin-scale that surrounds the monumental structure is an attraction that leaves visitors spellbound. To one of the First Class Olembe Chiefs, the stadium is impeachable and the chiefs have given their blessings.
